TRADERS DRAGGED TO POLICE ON DEFYING DIRECTIVES

Traders and former Makerere University Researcher Doctor Stella Nyanzi, have been arrested in Kampala as they attempted to address journalists about closure of arcades in the city center occasioned by the COVID-19 epidemic.
The arcades have been closed for now close to three months forcing no one to operate at all.
Godfrey Katongole the chairman of the Kampala City Arcades Association led the group today Wednesday, immediately they started addressing media the joint force of the police accompanied by Local Defense Unit rounded them up.
The traders are demanding that government clearly states its position on payment of rent arrears to compel all landlords to forego amount overdue for the last three months of non operation.
They have also threatened to state a demonstration early next week on Tuesday if the government does not respond to their plea for reopening their working places.
Dr Nyanzi who also claims to be own businesses in the arcades and the other arrested traders have been taken to the Central Police Station.
