Secret Behind Top Radio Remaining Uganda’s Finest Station

For years now, Top radio continues to be the country’s dominant radio station among both the young and old because of its great programming which positions it as their radio of choice for entertainment, information, education and spiritual development.

Owned by Pastor Jackson Ssenyonga, Top radio is a subsidiary of the Top media consortium which umbrellas Kampala FM, Top Television, ATV and a number of other radio stations spread across the country. Top media is the largest privately owned media house in Uganda with Top radio being the first Christian radio station in the country.

The station runs nine excellent shows every week day including its flagship show Simbula, Agafa Munsi, An Hour with Pastor Jackson Ssenyonga and Sitima Y’amaka. Others are Lunch Hour Live, Omudigido, Akawoowo K’ebyemizannyo, Kulikayo and Okwatibwako 2020.

Simbula presented by Kamagu, Ronald Mubiru and Omudingidi has become a household name in the country for its rare entertaining flair, intriguing, educative and informative segments that no one can afford to miss. The show which runs from 6am to 10am is not only dominant in homes but everybody’s preferred show in taxi’s and other public means of transport. Omuzira Fumbe Lubwama Vincent, another experienced and knowledgeable presenter shakes the country’s radio waves in the mid morning with Agafa Munsi program from 10am to 11am. He brings the world in the ears of the listener in an elaborate and most unparalleled way through information and analysis.

The current talk of the nation is An Hour With Pastor Jackson Ssenyonga, a show that ran concurrently on Top radio and TV from 11am to Midday. Here, Pastor Ssenyonga interacts with the public live in the studios on a number of issues including but not limited to spiritual and family. For days now, the pastor is using the show emphasize the significance of marriage as written in the Bible. He has also used the show to alert the public about and preach against false prophets.

Celebrated family show host Joan Lule alias Iron lady has given radio in Uganda a new face in regard to family programming by hosting Stima Y’amaka, a show that has reached and touched every family member. The show which has solved many family problems runs from midday to 1pm when Lunch Hour Live is broadcast live from Christian Life Church Makerere Kavule.

From 2pm to 4pm, Uganda’s top gospel artistes Sseku Martin and Florence Rukundo entertain the country with both new and old gospel music as well playing requests of the listeners. The show which began last year is already ranked among the best gospel entertainment shows in the land.

As it has been always, Top radio’s Akawoowo K’ebyemizannyo remains the most desired sports show. It was last year spiced up by introducing veteran sports commentator Ddumba Sulaiman who does the show with a female Diva, Sarah Kaddu from 4pm – 5pm.

You can not talk about an evening on radio and you miss out Kulikayo which runs from 5pm to 7pm. The great show is done by Lady Winnie, Julie Simbwa, Kisakye Ivan and Prince Jimmy. The program also consists of entertainment, informative segments as well as great music for one’s listening pleasure. Its sports segment done by Lule The Brazilian is unmatched.

Okwatibwako is undoubtedly the best political talk show on radio. It is hosted by celebrated talk show host Steven Dunstan Busuulwa who also doubles as the Station Manager and Kungu Al-mahadi Adam, an experienced print and broadcast journalist. Busuulwa hosts media consultant Tamale Mirundi every Monday from 6pm to 8pm with Kungu doing it from 7-8pm Tuesday to Friday. It addresses leading topical issues through hosting news makers, top politicians, leaders and other eminent personalities.

The programs, P5 and others on the weekend stand high in maintaining the top most position among radio stations in Uganda.
