POLICE STARTS VACCINATION EXERCISE

The Uganda Police Force has today started the vaccination of officers against Covid-19 at Police Headquarters, Naguru in Kampala.
Several police directors, commissioners and senior officers took the jab today.
The Chief of Joint Staff AIGP Major General Jack Bakasumba says the exercise will cover the entire country.
The Uganda Police Force has become the latest government institution to join Covid-19 vaccination exercise to fight the deadly corona-virus that has hit the world.
During the launch today- Wednesday, Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, the police’s Chief of Joint Security take the first jab and was followed by other senior officers.
He said that vaccination is not mandatory but Police officers are always on the frontline in all services so it’s of benefit to take the jabs although they are least affected by COVID 19.
Bakasumba confirms that the force was given 20,000 doses but are not enough to cater for the over 40000 officers.
The AIGP Dr. Moses Byaruhanga, the director of police health services advised that the vaccination exercise starts in Kampala Metropolitan Area since it’s a strategic location.
Byaruhanga adds that the region will be considered first because it has the largest number of police personnel approximately 15000,
he Police now join the UPDF, Special Forces Command and Uganda Prisons Services among the security forces that have kicked off the Covid-19 immunization exercise.
Uganda has received about 900,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from COVAX.
Government has promised to buy over two million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to be administered to Ugandans in a bid to fight COVID 19.
