Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana and his Kalungu counterpart, Joseph Ssewungu temporarily blocked from attending the burial of Maj Gen (Rtd) Kasirye Ggwanga on grounds that they were not accredited.
Ggwanga died on Tuesday after being admitted at Nakasero Hospital for two weeks. The army said a scientific burial was to be held due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
The implication was that on accredited people were allowed to attend.
However, the MPs showed up despite not being on the list, something that prompted security personnel to deny access until the intervention of the Minister of Works and Transport, Gen Katumba Wamala.
The MPs would plead with him as he passed to attend the ceremony where he was the Chief Mourner.
Katumba reportedly thereafter asked the security personnel to allow the two MPs to attend.
MP Allan Ssewanyana however told Top radio that they were allowed because they “put pressure”.
