A section of members of parliament have scoffed at President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the standard operation procedures set for saloon operators who were given a layaway to start work and the Boda-boda riders due to start work on 27th July, 2020.
During his televised National Address yesterday, President Museveni allowed boda boda riders to start carrying passengers on July 27, provided the riders wear face masks and helmets.
He said that boda boda operators will be required to keep a record of passengers they transport to enable health workers trace them in case a rider tested positive for COVID-19.
He said that the riders will not be allowed to operate beyond 6pm because they were being used by criminals.
However, Members of Parliament says this will not be possible to follow those Standard Operating Procedures.
Bugabula south Member of Parliament Henry Maurice Kibalya says what was imposed on boda boda riders is not realistic and even if they put in place these actions it becomes hard to tress the final destination of the passenger.
Robinah Ssentongo Kyotera district Woman Member of Parliament on a Democratic Party candidate, says it very unfortunate that boda bodas are given stringent rules to follow unlike taxis and buses.
Busia Municipality Geoffrey Macho says the Standard Operation procedures for the boda boda operators stated by president Museveni will not work.
