Parliament has directed the prime minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda to bring a statement on the attacks on journalists by security officers in the country.
The Mityana municipality Member of Parliament Francis Zaake raised a matter of national importance during Tuesdays plenary in which he complained about the attack and injuries that were inflicted on one of the journalists in Mityana.
Zaaake informed parliament that Enock Matovu is not the first journalist to be harmed by security forces while carrying out work.
“I ask parliament to query the prime minister to give a statement on the acts of brutality on 4th estate countrywide by security officers” Zaake confronts speaker.
He adds that the Prime minister should also show whether the culpable officers have been convicted and if not, then the state must look into that matter because journalists are human beings who have to do their work freely.
It was upon this note that the speaker of parliament Hon Rebecca Kadaga directed the prime minister to present a statement on the matter on Wednesday next week.
